“The Data Doc” returns to Sydney to discuss new book

Dr Thomas C. Redman, regarded as one of the founding fathers of Data Quality, will return to Sydney in March 2009 to share insights from his latest book, Data Driven: Profiting From Your Most Important Business Asset. Local data managers will be given another opportunity to hear the latest insights from one of the global leaders in the data and information management space.

Data Driven provides data practitioners and business leaders with a comprehensive business case for leveraging and recognising the potential of business data. The book reflects “The Data Doc’s” experience as an internationally renowned lecturer, author and President of US-based Navesink Consulting Group, which has seen him work with a number of high profile organisations including Morningstar, Shell and Samsung.

He says recent international events have highlighted the importance of data quality in all facets of modern life, and is keen to share his acumen with local practitioners once again.

"I was very impressed earlier this year with the good work that Australian companies are doing to advance data quality.  All of the most urgent problems of our day, from resolving the credit crisis, to fixing health care, to saving the environment, require far better data.  So I’m looking forward to returning next year."

Data Driven also builds on Dr Redman’s other published works, including Data Quality for Competitive Advantage, Data as a Resource: Properties, Implications, and Prescriptions, Data Quality for the Information Age and the highly recommended Data Quality: The Field Guide.

He is also co-founder of the International Association for Information and Data Quality (IAIDQ) and lead the development of the first Data Quality Lab at AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1987. There he and his team developed and implemented the first methods for improving data quality, improving the AT&T’s bottom line by tens of millions of dollars.

Dr Redman will present a keynote address and facilitate a masterclass at DQ Asia Pacific 2009.
